IMDR presented "HReality Bytes: The Great Reset", curated by @upohan and powered by @NHRD Pune, which was an HR summit that talked about the changing paradigm of HR and addressed the re-skilling requirements for HR professionals given the Next Practices that will come in vogue in the not-so-distant future.

The Welcome address was given by Dr. Giribala Dewasthale, Associate Professor IMDR.

The keynote speaker for the event was Shri Adil Malia, a seasoned HR professional who is the CEO and Managing Partner of The Firm.

Adil Malia spoke in length about Cognitive Courage and also stressed to destroy the script that says change is a villain. According to him, change is the hero and we need to destroy the status quo narrative. HR cannot win wars of tomorrow with weapons of yesterday. He emphasised that people are the most long-term sustainable persona.

  1. to Value Journey.
  2. Diversity, Inclusion beyond Optex.
  3. Are you building meaningful employee experience journeys- Value of life, wellness, etc.Bespoke employee
  4. programs- Understanding it from people-to-people level, not B2B.(Art of people management is eternal).

Eminent HR professionals graced the event and participated in various interactive segments. The event had interesting content like Heads or Tails, where the top HR faced off against each other.

The Face off session 1- Work from Anywhere Vs. Work from Office- Mr. Rajendra Khembhavi(Employee Relations Head - Tech Mahindra) supported Work from Anywhere&Ms.Nidhi Dhanju (Global CHRO - Praj Industries) supported Work from Office. Ms. Nitasha Dusi (HR Director @ Atidiv), respected alumni from IMDR acted as the moderator for the event. The following points were debated by the panellist.

  1. Vs. Service Sector.
  2. HR can't sit at home if there are employees in the office/ mfg. Ops.
  3. More than 70% people want to come to office as they are fed up with WFH.
  4. Industry specific norms & practices.
  5. Equating & giving employees a fair working space.
  6. How do you relate with them carries a lot of importance.
  7. Liberalization of workforce- More towards Project-based work.

Remote Work Culture

  1. Focused on employee experience.
  2. Org. Ethos are not closed within 4 walls of your house.
  3. Culture is a mindset, but it depends on how managers cascade it.

The Face off session 2- Work Life Balance Vs. Slogging Mindset- Mr. Anand Khot (CHRO – Pharmarack Technology), supported Work Life Balance Vs. Mr. Vikas Bhatia (Managing Director - Rieco Industries) supported Slogging Mindset. Ms. Bisakha Ketkar (Human Resources Manager at Sears Holdings India) was the moderator of the session.

  1. Work is nothing but life.
  2. Razor Sharp Focus.
  3. You can still make use of your time though you are anywhere in a meeting, work or so forth.
  4. Working for long hours doesn't mean you neglect your family.
  5. Prioritising work.
  6. Priority to Work Life Balance.
  7. Work Life Imbalance is the 5th largest reason of death.
  8. Spiritual Mindfulness.
  9. 41% people say that they are either stressed or very stressed with their work.
  10. Employee Counselling is a must.

Another segment of the event was Between the Lines, which began with a book review done by Mr. Eklavya Malhotra (Engagement Manager Upohan). The book infocus was “Leaders in the making” by Arvind N. Agarwal and T. V.Rao- Father of HR in India. The USP of the books were No.1 bestseller on Amazon with a note by Dave Ulrich. The book consisted of Evidence based insights. It is a very important book for People Managers. The book put forward the following points:

  1. Nature & Nurture play a very significant role.
  2. Stepping forth & accepting your mistakes.
  3. OCTAPACE
  4. O- Openness

    C- Confrontation

    T- Trust

    A- Authenticity

    P- Proactive

  5. 584 Behavioural Competencies, trimmed down to 42 & finally closed at 19 Competencies.
  6. "Develop your own ecosystem of values, your own vision of the functions that you are called to perform in your life, both professional & social".

The nextsession was a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Advait Kurlekar (CEO, Upohan Management Consultants). The panel consisted of Ms. Uma Ganesh (CEO - Global Talent Track), Mr. Raman Raina (HR Director APAC – Honeywell) and Ms. Priyanka Vanjari (HR Head - PN Gadgil Jewellers), who gave us great points to ponder in their discussion of leadership, which covered the ideal definition of leader, role of ego in leadership, and women in leadership.

Post lunch the session continued with the segment of HR Next Practices, in which the first speaker was Mr. Sameer Agashe (Co-founder – LitmusBlox), who spoke about HR Tech. The topics covered by him ranged from the areas under HR Tech, why we should not fear technology and the various stages in which the HR Tech elements currently exist.

The second speaker was Mr. Vinod Bidwaik (Group Director HR - AP Globale) who covered the area of Employee Engagement (Holistic Approach). He spoke about Employee Mindfulness and creating Trust Capital in an organization. The 3 Levels of Employee Engagement i.e. Motivational, Rational & Emotional. And the 4 Factors of Workplace in 2025

  1. The Emotional Workplace
  2. The Physical Workplace.
  3. The Technological Workplace.
  4. The Purposeful Workplace.He emphasized focus on employee experience and also stated that purpose, tech environment, Culture, Working Environment, HR Processes & Practices are elements that can be used to improve employee engagement.

The valedictory session was conducted by Ms. Vanadana Saxena Poria OBE (Chief Alarmist at The Human Alarm Clock & Co), who spoke about bringing drastic change in the systems and following the natural pattern of things. She emphasized on the importance of listening, which in today’s times is very short in supply. She concluded by saying that Compassion carries an extremely important role in a particular person’s life and it is to be implemented at required stages of life.

The Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Sanmath Shetty, Associate Professor IMDR.
