Instructional System
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure at IMDR is a unique blend
of Behavioural Event Interviewing (BEI) and Group
Work wherein the students are personally interviewed
by our faculty members and are also asked to perform
tasks in small groups. Along with this, the scores of
various entrance tests are considered for selection.
The selection is purely based on the competencies of
the applicants.
Self-Driven Learning System
The Deccan Education Society’s heritage of
self-reliance and self-renewal underlies the Self
Driven Learning System (SDLS) at IMDR.
The students take responsibility for their own
learning. Along with this, the basic norms of
academic performance are maintained. This
includes both curricular and co-curricular
activities. Most of the activities on campus are
Student-driven.
The purpose is to create an opportunity for
students to experience freedom of thought,
expression and action and make them less
dependent on faculty and the system for their
learning. Thus, SDLS focuses on developing
students to take charge of their own learning and
become competent performers who contribute
to their own growth, the growth of the system as
well as the progress of the society.
Design Methodology
The curriculum at IMDR is framed
according to the Instructional System
Design Methodology (ISDM) wherein
all the subjects in the curriculum are
linked horizontally in each semester
and vertically across semesters. The
first semester comprises foundation
subjects where basic disciplines of
management are taught. The second
semester emphasizes processes in
organizations and functional subjects.
The knowledge for decision-making
and problem solving is derived from
the applied functional and integrative
subjects taught in the second year. The
PGDM program is primarily an entry-
level qualification for a management
career.
Dual Specialization
IMDR offers Dual Specialization
to its students. Students have to opt
for a Major and Minor specialization
area. Of the 18 elective subjects,6 are
in the Generic Electives, 8 are in their
Major specialization and 4 are in
the Minor specialization. IMDR has
also introduced Business Analytics
and Entrepreneurship and Startup
Management as new specialisations.
These specialisations complement the
major specialisations and give a new
edge to our students. This gives them
the ability to perform tasks in more than
one domain in their entry-level jobs and
enhances their value. It also widens the
scope for the students and allows them
to explore the available opportunities.
